Student Discipline Policy

Student discipline is under the jurisdiction of each faculty and staff member. The main purpose of school discipline is to provide a safe and orderly Catholic Christian atmosphere of learning based on charity and courtesy. Discipline also provides guidelines and expectations for student behavior and a framework of consequences for choices made by the student. All students of St. George School are expected to follow the personal growth/conduct code.

The following are expectations of acceptable behavior for students of St. George School. (Infractions are listed, but should not be considered as all inclusive):

Expectation:
Respect for all members of the St. George community
Infractions: Bullying/harassment
Disrespect in word or action
Defiance of authority

Fighting, pushing, abuse
Unsportsmanlike conduct
Inappropriate behavior

Any serious misconduct is cause for suspension. Suspension is reason for serious concern. It entails the student being removed from classes and activities. A student on suspension is not permitted to take part in any social or cultural event sponsored by the school. Academic work is issued to the student and turned in the next day.

Personal Growth / Conduct Code

St. George School endeavors to build a Catholic community based upon Christian charity, self-respect and respect for others. All students are expected to follow the expectations and acceptable behavior policies as set forth by St. George School. The Personal Growth/Conduct Code is designed to enable a student’s personal growth and nurture a sense of responsibility as a member of the school faith community.

Please Note: The fact that a particular infraction of the Conduct Code is not specifically mentioned in the handbook is not an acceptable reason for improper conduct. It is impossible to list every action/attitude which may be inconsistent with acceptable Catholic Christian behavior/attitude. Students are expected to follow rules of good conduct, safety and common sense.

Students begin each academic trimester with a total of 100 points in conduct. Points are deducted for the following infractions:

15 points bullying/harassment
fighting/physical altercation

Bullying/harassment and/or fighting/physically injuring another is a serious offense that requires serious consequences. Any student guilty of being part of such an offense will be removed immediately from class. Communication with parents/guardians will be made by the party (ies) involved and the following action will be taken:

First Offense: Parent telephone conference will be scheduled and a detention will be issued.
Second Offense: Parent conference will be scheduled and a 1 day in school suspension will be issued by the principal.
Third Offense: Parent conference will be scheduled, a 2 day suspension will be issued by the principal and a Discipline Board hearing will be convened at which time a student’s continued enrollment will be decided

Once the conduct grade has reached 80 points, the student must remain after school for a detention. For each additional 5 conduct points removed from the card, a detention will be issued.

A parent/guardian, student, teacher conference will be required for any student who has reached 75 points on the conduct card. Students who have a conduct grade of 75 or below will be excluded from activities such as field trips, parties, dances, school picnic etc.

A copy of the student’s conduct card will be sent home each trimester with the report card.

Each trimester, students who maintain perfect conduct (100 points) and excellent conduct (90-99) points will be recognized for their efforts. A reward will be given at the end of each trimester.

Please Note: Students will have the opportunity to earn/gain back up to 5 points per trimester. Students may earn points in the following way:

  • PK-2nd grade: Points can be reinstated by showing effort to improve behavior.
  • 3rd-8th grade: Points can be reinstated by doing school service. One hour of School service equals one point earned. (Time may be broken down into smaller increments as determined by teachers) Service performed after school hours will require parent/guardian pick up.
